Spent October in beautiful Victoria singing Jaquino in POV's production of Beethoven's Fidelio. Great to be on the west coast again working with Maestro Vernon and his great team at POV. The production was directed by Wim Trompert with projections by Monica Hernandez.
2018/2019 Season began with the debut of a new opera with the Montreal Symphony as part of their season opening concert. It was composed by Matthew Ricketts and Tomson Highway and sung in Cree. I sang the title role of Chaakapesh with Geoffrey Salvas singing the baritone role of Mantou. We were joined by Florent Vollant, Ernest Webb and Akinisie sivuarapik who narrated through the performance. After two semi-staged performances at the Maison Symphonique in Montreal we toured it through 6 first nations communities in remote northern Quebec and Nunavik. This month I was asked to step in for an ailing tenor in Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde with the Ottawa Symphony at the National Arts Centre. The orchestra was led by Alain Trudel and the mezzo solos were sung by Susan Platts.
This fall I was part of a groundbreaking Soundstreams Canada production of Claude Vivier's Musik für das Ende and Glaubst du an die Unsterblichkeit der Seele. It was a lot of fun to be part of the Toronto Symphony's semi-staged production of Kurt Weil's, "The Seven Deadly Sins" featuring Wallis Giunta and Jennifer Nichols. The production was semi-staged by Joel Ivany and choreographed by Jennifer Nichols. Also featured are Stephen Hegedus, Geoffrey Sirett and Isaiah Bell.
